Lollipops & Ladybirds is an independent ceramic studio based in Cwmbran. Since 2011 we have been capturing handprints, footprints & fingerprints to create special keepsakes and memorial pieces for local families as well as offering a little haven in which children and their grown ups can unleash their creative side.
We have been lucky enough to work with some very special people during our 7 years, including celebrities. We count many of our wonderful customers as friends and have built an exceptional reputation for quality and customer care.
Meet Ceri:
I live in Cwmbran with my husband Ned and our three children.
As a Mummy, I know how quickly our children grow and that it’s important to grasp every moment with them.
I love to look back on the memories we have made together whether that’s through photographs, drawings and paintings they have made at school or special things we have collected from our travels.
When my eldest, now 12, was just 6 weeks old I wanted to capture her tiny hands & feet so I would never forget how little she once was. I find it so difficult to remember her as a baby already especially as we are already wearing the same size shoes! We’re those feet really ever that small?
I quickly realised that there was very little choice locally for handprint & footprint products and the large franchise stores operating from the stores like Mothercare & John Lewis charged a very hefty price. I opted for some beautiful outprints of Katie’s hands and feet from a large franchise business. They still remain one of my most precious things!
When Harry came along 4 years later I wanted to match up when he was 6 weeks old to match his big sister’s. That’s what got me thinking that I would love to be able to develop a range of different products which would offer parents a wider choice for their hand & foot keepsakes as well as keeping my prices within everyone’s reach. After some extensive product & market research, I took the plunge!
I worked from home for just over 2 years offering appointments at my kitchen table as well as offering a mobile service. After the first year, I was joined by Sara. We had already worked together for almost 10 years and with the business growing rapidly I was in need of some creative hands to help me develop our exciting keepsake range.
In October 2013 I moved the business from home to a large retail premises in Cwmbran Town Centre. I opened a play café to complement the keepsake business and we were able to offer paint your own pottery as well as our handprint, footprint & fingerprint keepsakes. We enjoyed 4 very happy years there and were lucky enough to meet incredibly lovely and loyal customers who visit us regularly and recommend us to their friends and family.
In the Summer of 2017 I knew that I was starting to struggle with the pressure of running two busy businesses and family life was begining to suffer. At that point I knew that I had to reduce some of the pressure, so making the choice to focus purely on our keepsake business and close the café, downsizing to smaller out-of-town premises seemed like the perfect solution. I can now have all of my equipment at the studio, rather than at my home-based workshop, staffing is easier and I have more time to really focus on developing our business and putting into action so many of the ideas that I have had to park over the past few years through lack of time.
We opened our new studio on 27th January 2018 and I have no regrets. I’m over the moon that so many of our wonderful customers have already been to visit and are continuing to recommend us. I am so grateful for your support x
